A lot of AI generated images are showing up.

Haven't yet found time to try out the software but it looks like this offers new ways to depict our favourite topic.

I've done a bit of messing around with an AI app I purchased called SmartAI - I've fiddled around with some slips pics just to see the outcomes. I'm still learning how to use it - but it's very automated...sort of like running it through multiple times not sure what you're going to get (very trial and error).

Here are two I did with AI with Frank Rushas work from way back when (Slip city).

Well, it gives me great pleasure to tell you that there has been a noticeable increase in interest in glamorous slips over the last couple of years. I am not saying things will ever get back to how they were in the 40s, 50s and 60s, but there is a definite upsurge in sales of fine vintage slips. Fashion goes around in circles and it was only a matter of time before women began rejecting those dreadfully androgynous laceless "slips" in beige, white or black. See - it's not all bad news - many more women are waking up to the fact that embracing their femininity is not a sign of weakness at all. To be fair, right the way through there have always been a core of women who love glamour and do their best to look their best (including me too) and feel extra special as a result x

I do hope that there will be a return to slips that have lacy hems. In the 80s and 90s you would regularly catch a glimpse of a slip three or four times a day, they were that popular. Those days are gone, but it would be nice to see a few more women wearing slips even though a lot of skirts and dresses have a lining now.

Many couture dresses and skirts deliberately don't have linings, even these days. Wearing a slip with them is an expectation rather than an option if the dress is to drape (hang) properly when worn, or not ride when turning. I studied fashion & dress history at university and I focused in on mid-century lingerie. That is when I started collecting and wearing slips. I wore slips when I was a little girl at school but soon dropped the idea when I was a bit older. So, when I once again wore slips in my late teens it was a revelation. As soon as I wore a fine, bias cut full slip under my shift dress I realised that it actually made me much more aware of my hips. It affected the way I walked and moved around - in a glamorous, more feminine way. The effect it had on my boyfriend, now my husband, was not to be underestimated either. From then on I started to understand that my mother and grandmother were on to something that I, as a 'modern' girl, had lost. Nowadays I have noticed that more and more women are buying them - the penny seems to have dropped. A good thing, surely? x

Thank you for your explanation of the practical reasons for wearing a slip under dresses.
You certainly know your stuff. Your insight as a university graduate who studied fashion and dress history as well as that of a slip wearing woman is most informative.
As a man, I merely enjoy the aesthetic of slips and how sensuous and feminine they look.
I have felt that if a modern female celebrity was to champion the wearing of slips as an undergarment again, many women would follow, especially if the utilitirian aspect was emphasised as much as the femininity that comes with wearing them.
I do hope that what you have been noticing in slip sales is the beginning of a real revival and that modern slips change from being, in the most part, unadorned and rather bland items to the lacy garments that all of us on this forum enjoy to see.
Fingers crossed for a brighter and lacier future.

Emma, Betty thank you so much - can I say how good it is to have ladies contributing to this forum.

Not being into wearing ladies clothing myself it’s not easy to appreciate the appeal of slips to ladies. You have explained it well. From my blokey perspective the look and feel of a pretty slip, or even the lacy hint of what lies beneath a summer dress or smart suit, brings a frisson of erotic glamour to an encounter. The plain, or just in your face revealing, fashions of today just don’t have that.

Of course men and women are absolutely equal, except when it comes to fashion and glamour that is; then it’s vive la difference!
