Slips that slip down

What a shame "slip wearing" is in the minority these days, and that makes "slip sightings" even more of a rarity. But
when one does encounter a "slip sighting" it is worthy of reporting, and when in this case a "real cracker" is observed,
it really does make our "slip lovers" day. Read on...

My wife and I (who also is a slip wearer and wears them to be seen) visited our local garden centre yesterday. We had
just parked up when another car arrived and parked opposite us. There were 2 ladies, I guess early to mid-fifties, both
pleasantly dressed in colourful summer dresses. They got out of their car and one the ladies appeared to be pulling up
what I hoped would be a slip up to her waist. I couldn't see her totally because of her open car door. Then, WOW! She
shut her car door and lo and behold, a white slip with 4 inches of white lace hanging below her dress hem. She checked
her slip, so she knew it was showing and left things as they were.

I thought, hmmm, well, this visit to the garden centre isn't going to be as boring as I thought. From a discreet distance we followed the two ladies across the car park, to the trolley area and in to the garden centre. This was about a 5 minutes walk, and I could now see 6 inches of lace now hanging below her dress hem. I was begining to wonder how much lace there actually was and how much further her slip would "slip down". Again maintaining a discreet distance we went up and down the aisles and after about 10 minutes or so she had 2 inches of plain white shiny material as well as the now known amount of 6 inches of lace hanging below! Then she came to a selection of plants and she spent a good 10 minutes there, bending over the plant bed and bending over to place her plants in the low trolley. Incredibly, she had almost a foot of slip now showing at the back with only about 4 inches showing at the front. WOW! And this went on for a good 10 minutes!

We continued around the garden centre, (never quite lost contact) and then I noticed she pulled her slip up a little but didn't check it. There was still about 6 inches showing. We went to the indoor section heading for the tills. About 10 minutes later I saw this Slip beauty of a lady crouching down to get some garden candles. When she got up, WOW again, her slip had dropped back down again, 6 inches of lace and 4 inches of plain
shiny white.

Then it was off to the checkouts. Purely by coincidence (as if!!) we were in the adjacent checkout. Now she
really was losing her slip big time. With all the bending over and reaching across to scan all her items, she had more
plain white shiny material showing than there was lace! Standing normally there was now 12 inches showing at the front,
and an incredible (I estimate) 15 inches at the back. Upon making their way back to the carpark, she pulled her slip up
again, now with about 6 inches of lace hanging below.

What a sight, what a cracker, one to remember. I hope you have as much pleasure reading this as I had seeing this
awesome slip sighting.

I spent most of the day in around Portsmouth Harbour, but in walking back to the railway station pass the entrance to Gunwharf Quay I saw a lady who I believe was in her early sixties, wearing a white dress with black spots. Just below the dress you could see appear every now and then as she walked about 2 inches of lace and half an inch of shiny white material.

It doe snot matter where I go, I do seem to have the odd slip sighting. However, it is mostly with ladies in the age range 50+, that I see the slip sightings.

Her dress was knee length, just an inch or so above the knee. A classic style, (my wife reliably informs me here), rose pattern, A-line, slightly flared from the waist, short sleeved.

One of those dresses that is great when worn like she did with a white lacy half slip, which revealed even more slip when bending over and/or reaching up.

She looked an absolute picture.

that is a great story unixman it brings back memories of a gal I dated back in the eighties she loved wearing dresses this one excuse my short memory was blue 3/4 thigh length lite material so a slip was needed all of this with tan hose & medium heels I drive up her driveway and she's comes out I jump out to open the car door didn't notice if her slip was showing at the time on to dinner I dropped her off at the resturant she's walking toward the front door as I drove off HER SLIP WAS STARTING TO SHOW AT THE BACK ,so I park go to our booth she chose sat down as whispered in her ear that her slip was showing a little she said she would go to the ladies room we finished dinner got up & left we both forgot her slip was showing we went to the mall done some shopping she got in front of me by a little distance what a sight !!! across the back of her dress at the hem was 2 in. of lace & about the same amount of plain slip material I ruined the show by telling her she needed the pull her slip up several tugs got it out of site but when we got back to her house we walked in to the living room her sister was sitting in a chair & informed her of her slip show at the back of her dress I looked about 2 in. of lace on show again loved those days!!!

Hey, what are the chances of seeing the same slip sighting again? This weekend I was in our local supermarket and I recognised the lady I mentioned in the Garden Centre at the start of this post! I couldn't believe my luck and what a
chance in a million! To add to the excitement she was wearing the SAME dress and the SAME slip!!

Already in the supermarket, I noticed her at the end of an aisle, bending over her trolley with about 8 or 9 inches out at the back; and when she stood up straight there was about 4 inches of lace showing. I kept a discreet distance popping out of her aisle occasionally, and her slip just as last time was quickly falling down, after 5 minutes there was 6 inches of lace, a further 5 minutes all the lace and 2 inches of shiny plain white slip was showing also!

Now with about 8 inches showing, she reached up high to get some cereals and an additional 6 inches of her slip was revealed. Again bending over in to her trolley would also reveal a few more inches every time.

She eventually pulled her slip up to leave about 4 inches showing, and the whole process started over again. Five or so minutes, 6 inches showing, and about 5 minutes after that her slip was back down again, all 6 inches of lace and 2 inches of plain white. Incredible, I was shaking inside. She pulled her slip up again before heading to the checkout.

Same again, after about 5 minutes her slip was back down again, and at the checkout with all the bending and reaching across she had between 8 inches and I guess 14 inches of slip showing! Many times there was more plain white material showing than there was lace! Phew!

Let's hope this happens again...

She needs new elastic in her slip. With 15 inches showing below a knee length dress it wouldn't be far off the floor?.

Any vintage slips I buy & intend wearing I always replace the elastic, they may look fine when you buy them but from bitter experience some have let me down literally!

There is nothing more horrifying feeling it slip down in public when you a crossing a busy road in heels in broad daylight!

Hi Fiona,
do you replace the elastic yourself or do you have to go to a seamstress? My wife has a few vintage slips whose elastic needs replacing and she can't do it herself.

I do it my self, getting hold of the elastic is easy, its getting the elastic in is the difficult part, I always try to minimise the amout of stiching needed. I always use a plastic blunt needle.
